I . . . . iKiuuui uv una migiijy squauron, Admiral Ad-miral Evans, was appointed as a cadet in the. naval academy from Utah. That is the foundation for tho State pride in this matter, a pride that has grown with the growth. and the spread of tho fame of the great Admiral. And we have. also, the general pride in this tremendous battleship fleet, that overy patriotic Amorican ha in tho glory and strength of his country. AVe are proud, also, of tho high school cadets, and reiilizp that this proposed trip to tle coast for thorn would be an ovent of educational power far beyond any other one thing that they would ever be likely like-ly to see ajjain in their lives. .Everybody is well disposed toward the schools, toward to-ward the high school, and townrd this battalion of high school cadets. The lads arc orqanized regularly in companies according to the United States regulations, regula-tions, there being four companies, forming form-ing a regular battalion. They have also a band that is conccdodly one of the best to be found anywhere, and all going go-ing together, thov would undoubtedly mako a sensation in San Francisco, and provo a popular feature of the oxorciscs thnt make up the celebration. The cost of sending the boy,? down in command of their officers and under the general supervision of Major "Webb, an experienced soldier and a man fully capable of looking after their wolfare. insures that thero would be no peril, either physical, or moral, involved in this trip. The boys would be away front their studies for a week. That week they could easily make up in the enthusiastic vigor with which . tbey would' take hold ai'ter thoy get back. It is understood that the Board of Education Edu-cation will grant this leave, and it is hoped that it will also grant more substantial sub-stantial aid. The project is onc4 well calculated1 to capture the town, and we trust that enthusiasm for the trip will spread like wildfire among tho population. |
