SALT LAKE CITY ONE OP THE PLAINTIFFS Action Is Begun to Recover Part of Cost of Utah Lake Pumping Plant. i Salt Lake City, the East Jordan Irrigation Irri-gation company and the North Jordan Irrigation company arc the plaintiffs in a suit filed iu the Third District court Monday to recover $5(33.33 from the South Jordan Canal company and $2029.32 from the Utah and Salt Lake j Canal company as a part of the cost of J operating the" pumping plant at Utah I lake iu 1906. According to the com- plaint. $67S.-tl is due the North Jordan ; Irrigation cqmpany, $:08.03 to the Fast ! Jordan Irrigation compaiiv and $1611.26 ' to Salt hake City. City Attorney IJ. j J. Tho case involves Ihe history of the eff or Is of the various plaintiffs" and defendants de-fendants to provide an adequate water supply for the irrigation of about -1.000 acres of laud and for domestic uses in Salt Lake City. Prior to 1SS5 the plaintiff and defendants, acting jointly, constructed a dam near the out-leu out-leu ot Utah lake and dredged the bed of Jordan river for the purpose of facilitating facili-tating the flow of water. Subsequently, in 1SS9. they dredged the bed of Jordan river above the dam to a depth of about twenty two inches and built at a point about a mile south and near Utah lake a now clrfm, t here by creating a greater storage capacity and better facilities to raise or lower the surface of the lake for their joint use. Install Pumping Plant. These works wore paid for jointly, the cost being apportioned among the various plaintiffs and defendants. Later it was proposed to install a pumping system tor the purpose of affording af-fording an even greater water supplv. all of the plaintiffs and defendants in the present action being interested in the enterprise. The pumps were constructed con-structed and installed at a cost of $o.1,2."30, and there has since been expended ex-pended in other improvements $1922,01, the total cost being borne by the plain-tills plain-tills and defendants. During the irrigation season of 1906, 26.S91 acre feet of water- were served to the South Jordan Canal company and -J 3.055 'to the Utah and Salt Lake canal, at a cost of $0.1335 an acre foot. The cost of operating tho plant during tho year was $13,504.30, toward which outlay the Utah and Salt Lake canal company paid $2986. 9$ and the South Jordan ('anal companj- $829.03. The action is brought ' to recover the remainder re-mainder of apportionments due on the use of the pumping plants, excessive water utilized, for depreciation of the plant and for interest on the investment. |
