Show SALT LAKE OWNS TIE BAiERWNGE Mining Exchange Is Enjoying One of Biggest Booms in fts History. MONEY RAKED OUT OF HIDING PLACES Wild Scramble to Corral Tin-tic Tin-tic Stocks Sends the Prices Soaring. Just as a person smiles broadly over tho fact that ho Is ablo to wear somo raro flower out of season In his lapel, so Salt Lake City Is enjoying the unique distinction distinc-tion of having tho only stock exchange In the wholo country where business Is extremely satisfactory. In proportion to New York City, for Instance, the Salt Lake exchango Is away ahead, and what gives an additional color of Interest to theso facts is that while stocks aro coming com-ing down in New York and Boston, they aro going up, ana rapidly at that, In Salt Lako City. Wednesday was no exception to tho rule, there being hardly a single stock on tho board without Its upward tendency. This was cspcclully marked in tho Tlntlc stocks, and Colorado led off as usual with the groatest gain. All the Knight stocks were strong, while such stocks as Uncle Sam showed considerable Improvement ovor ordinary conditions. The morning call was one of the most exciting since tho great Tlntlc boom of last year. The present boom rosombles that of last year In that It Is taking place when- the Eastern East-ern markets are all shot to pieces. The best market Salt Lake City ever had was when the Eastern cities were In the strongest grasp of the financial panic. Tho real cause for this present boom is hard to determine, for the local talent agrucs that slumping prices instead should be the logical conclusion of existing exist-ing conditions In general. The smelting situation Is not cleared up enough yet to justify such trading, and oven if It was the present price of metals would prevent many companies from sending In any great amount of ores. One explanation that has tho right sort of a sound to it Is to tho effect that tho money which stock Investors have beon hiding away In their stockings on account of the panic is now being brought out, which theory would be backed up very much by the great number of buying orders that wore round the rail yesterday. This would go to show that It Is mostly a speculative market, the trading being mostly speculative, specula-tive, not Intended for permanent Investments, Invest-ments, but for scalping purposou. But it certainly is a lively market, whatever the cause, and there Is money being mado hand over fist during a period when every Indication promised n dull soason. There Is bound to be a recession, but when this will come no one can tell. If people could tell, there would be some active shorting going on at the proper hour. The uncertainty of the cause for the boom, and tho uncertainty as to tho goneral conditions, tend to leave the next day In doubt after each day of such trading. ' Now York Mining Stocks. James A.
