Pat Cahill of Park City and an unknown un-known man were killed and four men whose names have not been learned were in.iurcd by a runaway freight tram on the Bingham brauch of the Denver & Rio Grande early Tuesday morning. The cause of the accident has not been satisfactorily explained, but it is the general opinion that the air brakes had been tampered with. When the train started down the incline in-cline the train crew attempted to sot the hand brakes but as the momentum increased they saw the futility of their efforts and I lie engineer, flremnn, conductor con-ductor and brakemau started to jump at intervals. The train continued on its wild rush down and out of the canyou, but at Hcvcre switch, about nine milos below Bingham, it crashed into a light engine en-gine piling tho cars in the ditch. Cahill, who was. killed, was searching search-ing for work at the mines, and failing to" find it was returning lo camp on tho train. He leaves a widow and two children at Park City. The injured were lakpn to tho hospital at Murray. |
