Show RQSSITER WIHS BACE WITH BEST LIGHT American Jockey Scores Victory Vic-tory Over Famous Roumanian Roumani-an Opaifz. Tribune Speeinl Sportinc Sorvico. VIENNA, Dec. 1. Rossitcr rodo Best Light for M'. Mnrgliileman in the King's .lubileo Prize at Bucharest, beating tho Roumnnian-bred Opaitza, who was second, while Caramol, who undertook the long journey -from his training quarters at Chantilly, could only finish fourth. An old jockey and trainer wandered out some years ago to Roumauin, but returned somewhat disenchanted with the place. Things must havo altered of Into yenrs. The race courso is admirnbly situated, and frequented on important days by a throng. The stand, ofiico and other buildings are of the most ornamental description, and fully up to date, with handsomo dressing rooms and baths for the jockeys. The courso is small, with very sharp and dangerous turns, tho track is full of holes, so that sprained joints are of frequent occurrence, and tho run in is barely a couple of furlongs on the straight. Fields aro very restricted, owing to a paucity of thorough-breds, but the public will bet on anything, and even put thoir money on each of four horses from one stable representing tho cut ire field for a certain cer-tain raco. Tho bookmaker is unknown un-known at tho present, and the only medium for speculation is the "Tola-kisalor, "Tola-kisalor, " which works for tho good of all, without any tax or commission commis-sion being levied, oithor by the Government Gov-ernment or by the local racing society. The public are indifferent as to tho return they get as long as thoy win. |
