Show JACK HAYES AT REST Eagles Do Honor to Memory of Departed De-parted Brother. Under the auspices of tho Fraternal Brotherhood of Eagles. J. C. Hayes, who threw himself In front of a switch engine In the Rlo Grande yards Thursday Thurs-day night, and was almost Instantly killed, was lovingly laid to rest in tho city cemetery Sunday afternoon. Funeral services over the remains were held at the Knights of Pythias hall at 2 o'clock. Abraham Bernstein, secretary of tho Salt Lake Aerie of Eagles, and Rev. Frank Fay Eddy of the Unitarian society officiated. Several Sev-eral beautiful hymns were sung by the Unity quartette. The simple but Impressive services opened with tho quartette Blnglng tho hymn entitled "I Need Thee Every Hour." Mr. Bernstein then read the funeral service of the Brotherhood of Eagles, In which was written that those present had assembled for the purpose of paying the last tribute to their departed de-parted dead. The hymn, "JesuB Loves Thee," was sung. And then Mr. Eddy made a few remarks, 'which were beautiful. Then? was no mention made of the sad tragedy, trag-edy, the remarks being filled with faith, affection and good cheer, and running throughout was the one principle that death was the beginning of a purer life beyond. After Mr. Eddy had finished speaking, all of the members of tho fraternity present arose and Mr. Bernstein read the funeral rites. "Nearer, My God, to Thee" was then sung by tho quartette and benediction pronounced by Mr. Eddy. Fully 160 people were present at the funeral. The pallbearers were Heber Cox, Charles " Harris, B. N. Harman, Walter Legg, J. R Lewis and D. E. Osborne. |
