METALLURGY OF COPPER. Recovery of Gold Will Be Greatly Increased In-creased by These Improvements. Lead smelting and the various wet processes of ore treatment have lor many years been rightly regarded aB the main sources of recovery of the precious metals. With the Improvement Improve-ment in copper smelting, howover, this branch of metallurgy is gaining favor as a means for collecting gold and silver, sil-ver, and ultimately recovering them in a pure state. Tho refining of lead bullion bul-lion is a crude process compared with the clean and accurate electrolytic process pro-cess for copper bullion, which gives chemically puro copper and from 98 to 9D per cent of tho noble metalri. Not only is copper refining more accurate, but the smelting of copper ore and converting con-verting of copper matte aro simple processes pro-cesses in which gold-bearing slllclous ores can be used to advantage.
