Show GASTLETON IS MAKING COOD INJJtP. LEAGUE Is Pitching Well, Batting Heavy and Creating Furore Among Ladies. Roy Castleton, the young Salt Laker who left hore early last, spring to Join the Youngstown team of tho O. & P. league, Is making good. Not only has ho demonstrated his ability to hold down a position In a minor league, but what Is moro ho has attracted mich marked attention aB to make himself a prospective prospec-tive big leaguer. Thero are two reasons for this. Castleton ia not only a great pitcher, but he Is a remarkable batter, and men who combine these qualities arc always welcomed In the major leagues. The Georgetown Sunday Vindicator remarks re-marks on this point: "Three-base, hits by pitchers are rare. Castleton certainly stung one out yesterday." By the way, that hit won the game. Last week Castleton Castle-ton pitched a ten-lnnlng game in which his team was shut out by the Bcore of 1" to 0, "Tough luck," he remarks Has Eye on Castleton. According to tho Ohio press an agent of tho Chicago National league has his eye on Roy. Tho report reads: "The agent dropped In the other day without having his arrival ncralded by a band of trumpets. It was learned that this agent represented tho Chicago National league. He took a side-long glance at Roy Castleton." Castle-ton." If Castleton makes the big league, and there Is no reason why he should not do so In tlmo, he will be tho first Utahn to have won that distinction. Under the caption "Cass a Curiosity." a Youngstown Youngs-town paper prints tho following Interesting Interest-ing account of the young Utahn: Creating Furore. Roy Castleton, the Youngstown pitcher. Is creating a furore among the ladles who attend the games In iho O. &. V. league. All this comes about from tho fact that Castleton came hore from Salt Lake City, Utah, and because some of hl folks are conneoted with the Mormon church. Next to a "furrcn" duke or other dignitary, a Mormon is considered one of the greatest great-est novelties extant by tho doting ladles. Everywhere Cass appears there are anxious anx-ious Inquiries: "Is that the man?" "Is he really a Mormon"' and "How many wives do you suppose he ha.?" As a. matter of f.ict Cass never committed com-mitted matrimony, fo far as Is known here. He is a young man, not over 3 years of age, ana saj, he never haa any matrimonial inclinations. Somo of his more distant relatives are Identified with the Mormon church, but his Immediate family maintains an attitude of Independence. Indepen-dence. Incidentally Castleton Is pitching great ball and gives promise of oocomlng one of the best pitchers In this league. He is a left-hander and has everything. Castleton Intends remaining In the East several years. He will find employment during the wlntor months, and likely will work for the Youngstown club again next, season. |
