The people of the third ecclesiastical vurd. of the Church of Jesus Christ of ' Latter-day Saints, who attended the meeting Sunday night at the meetinghouse, meeting-house, wero treated to a double surprise; and. in fact, a .surprise was sprung, that will Interest the people of the cltv generally. gen-erally. The first surprise came " when President Joseph F. Smith, Apostlo Goorgo A. Siv.lth and Persldent Hugh J. Cannon of Liberty stake rind his counselors coun-selors made their appearance at the nulling Resigns on Account of Poor Health. "When Bishop Oliver Hodgson of the vard arose and announced his resignation from tho office of bishop consternation was cxprcaed on every face. Tho bishop blated that owing to the very poor health he had been suffering with for some time pfiFt he felt compelled to hand in his resignation res-ignation and that it would bo for the good of both himself and the benefit of tho wnrd, his strength not permitting him to carry on tho work as he had formerly done. Boscoe W. Eardley Appointed. Roecoe W. Eardley was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by Bishop Hodg-ior's Hodg-ior's resignation. Mr. Eardley Is a comparatively com-paratively young man, but has been nn active workir in the ward. Changes in Counselors. Andrew J. Smith, the bishop's first counselor, was reappointed as first counselor coun-selor to the new bishop. C, J. Buck-waiter, Buck-waiter, the bishop's second counselor also resigned his position, owing to the" fact that ho expects to move from the ward K. Wallace Royden was appointed second counselor lu his place. Urbln Blckncll, the clerk of tho ward rileo resigned his position and will be succeeded by Julian Smith. |
