At the Third Preibyterlan church Sunday Sun-day afternoon a meeting of the congregation congrega-tion was held and llnal action was taken, tho matter having been deferred ono week, on the acceptance of the resignation resigna-tion of Its pastor. Rev. Joslah McClaln-In McClaln-In compliance with nn urgent request of Rev. McClaln no rfort was made to Induce In-duce lilm to withdraw hla resignation. RfsolutlonB preired by the church session ses-sion were presented nnd wdopted by the congreagtlon. Tho resolution follow: High Tribute to Pastor. "Resolved. That tho resignation of Rev. Josinh McClaln of the Third Presbyterian church Is caused by no omission on his part of faithful and devoted worlc. Ho ha3 visited the sick, ministered to tho dying, dy-ing, rejoiced with ns when Joy camo to our homos and . sympathized In time of trouble, llo has preached tho true Gospel Gos-pel with a true faith and so dealt with us that ho made his 'commission felt In tho heart and soul of the commonest hearer. Fourteen Years Their Leader. "Wo nro grateful that for fourteen years this congregation hns hnd ns their leader a thorough Bible scholar and an nble and persuasive preacher. For eight years ho prfnehed in this church nnd wns then unanimously and with enthusiasm chosen as Its pastor. Ho was not chosen until long nfter wo hnd learned to lovo him and esteem his worth. Resignation Is Accepted. "lie has earnestly requested us to uso no endeavors to Induce him to withdraw his resignation, and while wo feel compelled com-pelled to accept that resignation, which we now do, to tako effect Juno 1 next, wo at the same time express our deep sorrow In tho contemplation of tho end of his pastorate of this church." |
