Settlement Seems Near. At a meeting of the engineering and sewerage committee Thursday night the two factions "smoked the pipo of peace,'' and an amicable settlement is now in sight. Dr. P. G. Plummcr, Frank-Pierce. Frank-Pierce. Waldemar Van Cott and W. W. Ritter of tho Board of Regents of tho university aud President ,F. T. Kings-i Kings-i bury appenred before the committee on behalf of the university, and President A. M. Wrench and Attorney E. C. Lackner appeared on behalf of tho Federal Fed-eral Heights companv. After discussing the matter among themselves for some time they were called hefore tho committee. com-mittee. W. W. RittPr. the chairman of the Board of Regents, addressed the committee, stating the position of tho board. Mr. Van Cott waB called on and 6aid :bnt he had already outlined hiB position at a previous meeting of the committee. President Wrench then made a statement in which he said that ho was anxious for the matter to be settled as soon as possible, as his contractors con-tractors had been delayed in their work by tho controversy. Action of the Committeo. Mr. Lackner, attorney for the Federal Heights company, addressed himself to tho committee with reference to the legal question as to the. right-of-way of i the university to deed a strip of its propert3' for a roadway. Stowe and Palmer, agents for the Federal Heights company, w-ere also in attendance unon the committee meeting. The committee finally adopted the following: fol-lowing: "Tt is tho sense of the committoe that the Board of Regents join Mr.. Wrench in a street in tho north end of the campus, and that the easement of the university and the city be restricted restrict-ed to a suitable width i'or an allov, but not to interfere with the pipo lines." This report will be submitted to tho council at a meeting which will bo held Friday nitrht. The members of I ho Board of Regents said that Uicy had no power to act with authority Thursday night, as they were not present pres-ent in an official capacity. Thev asserted as-serted that they would hold a meeting Friday and appear before the City Council Coun-cil Friday uight. |
