The early strength was tho result of an advance of more than Id In tho price of wheat at Liverpool, due to numerous reports from western Canada claiming ilift. wheat crop had been severely damaged by frosts, and to an ndvanco of one cent on the Minneapolis curb. Local traders bought frooly at the start, and there was also a genoral demand from commission commis-sion houses to fill outsldo orders. After tlho first hour, however, trade quieted down and the market turnod very weak. Tho chief reason for the weakness was a rise in temperature in tho Northwest and a report that acceptanco of cash bids sent country shippers wore more liberal. Tho fact that considerable cash wheat had been trnnsferrod over night from prlvnto to public elevators also tended to Increase In-crease sales In tho local market. There was little support to tho market late In the day and the close was weak, with prices almost at the lowest point. Dc-ccmbor Dc-ccmbor closed at 97c. Clearances of wheal for the week, as shown by Brad-street's, Brad-street's, wore equal to 5,270,000 bushels. Corn prices declined more than one cent 'per bushel becauso of a genoral selling brought out by favorable weather for the maturing of tho new crop. Demand De-mand came largely from shorts. December De-cember closed at 68c. Trade in oata was light and the mnr-kot mnr-kot was weak in sympathy with wheat and corn. December closed nt 521c. Provisions wore weak on selling of lard and ribs by local packers. At the close January pork was off 20c. at $15. S5. Lard was down 5c. ut S8.75, and ribs were 7c lower, at ?S,10.
