Tho housewifo who has not purchased her supply of tomatoes for winter preserving pre-serving would bettor do so at once, for the vegetable is "going up" every day. What Is more Important, is the fact that tho (jimllty no longer continues to Improve, Im-prove, and if anything It does not seem to bo as good as at tho fore part of the week. Friday tomatoes retailed at SI a bushel, Last week the price lingered between SO and 90 cents, at the end of the week creeping up to the $1 mark-Friday mark-Friday there was a lltllo scarcity on tho row. Merchants gonorally predict that the price will go up to ?l 10 next week. There was a. little surprlso in store for the "trust" dealers along Market row Friday. Ono of tho "Independent" dealers deal-ers had ovorstockod with Tokay grapes and had to cut his prlcea to get rid of his supply. Hence he advenlsed tho grapes at 10 cents a pound. Other dcnl-ers dcnl-ers held them at 15 cents a pound, as they have been the greater part of the week. Tho 15 cent dealers charged that tho 10 cent man was selling his grapes at light weights, particularly when he offered the baskets of Tokay grapes at 50 cents each. Threo cases of over ripo mspberries. but nevertheless raspberries, sold at 15 cents a box. A new arrival along tho row in the family of green goods Is chicory, much loved by the Italians and Greeks because it can be ueod as a substitute for garlic.
