Tho Penrose, drive, for somo weeks under un-der construction by tho jnvorrrment, from Fort Douglas to a connection with Fort Douglas avenue, Popperton place, Is about complete, and will soon go Into servlco as tho drive to Fort Douglne. There Is not a liner Specimen of macadam mac-adam road -making In the country. The drive leaves the main road to Brtgham street near the east end of the proposed row of officers' quarters, which are to extend north from the main entrance, about JDOO fret. It Is guttered on the east side with Stone blocks and supplied with catch-boetns at frequent Intervals. Plan for tho Street- The plan is to OSITJ the Improvement tho full length of Fort Douglas avenue, to Its connection with Third stroet. at th west end of Popperton pine Tills avenuo Is the main thoroughfare through Popperton, and Is 100 feet wide As now proposed the driveway proper will bo forty fcot wide and of macadam. Thirty feet on each nldo will ho reserved for sidewalks, t!e walks propor to be laid dow-n between two rows of trejes on each side of the strcnt. The curblnr: and wnlke are to bo of cement.
