Show A TEMPORAL PRIESTCRAFT. Three young couples of the Mormon faith recently desired to bo married. They resided In one of the dark stakes of ZIon. Ono of the young men belonged be-longed to a family which had shown recalcitrant disposition toward the church authorities; two of thorn belonged be-longed to other families At a general priesthood meeting the names of the two young men of tho non-offending class were presented. The following questions were propounded to them In open meeting 1 "Do you believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of Qod?" 2. "Do you believe that the priesthood priest-hood has the authority to rule In all things, temporal and spiritual?" B. "Will you abide by the authority of the priesthood In nil things, spiritual spirit-ual and temporal?" Having answered these inquiries in the affirmative, It was decided that these two young men should reeele recommends to bo married according to the rites of the Mormon church The name of the third youth was not presented, pre-sented, although he had attended the meeting and expected to receive treatment treat-ment similar to that accorded to the others After the meeting was adjourned, this young man's bishop said to him. "You are a good boy, moral and capable. ca-pable. Just let the matter rest for awhile and Wfl will seo what we can do." The youth answered: "Bishop, I feel that I could not answer thns questions to the satisfaction of the priesthood." Thereupon, a recommend was denied to the boy. The family nf his fiancee and tho girl herself, were horror-stricken. For a time It seemed that the young man must either yield to the unrighteous un-righteous demand of the priestcraft or lose hla hopes of earthly happiness. At last he overcame his sweetheart's s ru-plea ru-plea and she consented to a civil marriage. mar-riage. They were wed. but both are now under the anathema of the Mormon Mor-mon church. The young wife and her relatives feel that she has Jeopardized all her hopes of eternal salvation, besides prov&klng ostracism by all the friends and associates asso-ciates of her former years. Naturally the young man is distressed for the sake of his loved ones, even if he feels no personal deprivation The monstrosity of the situation Is emphasized by the fact that the ruling priesthood, so-called, In that particular stake of Zlon Is about as Ignorant and arrogant a lot of brutes as ever held the lash and th? gyves of power In this world There Is one consolation to those who look on: Such Idiotic tyranny will drive all self respecting people out of the church. The attention of the Senate Committee Commit-tee on Privileges and Ekrtlons Is called to the fact that the priesthood of the Mormon church demands Its right to rule in temporal affairs, and that it rr.aks this demand a test of fellowship In tho church and standing in the community. com-munity. It seeks to ruin the lives of such of Its born members as will not yield to this infamous doctrine. |
