Show HONORS TO LOOMIS, Assistant Secretary of Stnto Welcomed Wel-comed to Mare Island Navy Yard. MARE ISLAND. Cal., March 2-1. Francis B. Ioomls. Assistant Secretary of tho State department, paid a visit to tho Maro. Island navy yard today, coming from San Francisco on the naval tug Golden Gate. Upon arriving at Marc Island, Isl-and, tho Assistant Secretary was accorded accord-ed tho full honors to which his rank entitles en-titles him. A salute of fifteen guns was fired from tho Independence ns the tug came up the channel. The Mare Island Station band nnd a full battalion of marines, under command of MaJ. James 13. Mnhoney, commander of tho marine corps at the yard, were drawn up at the quay wall, whi'ro tho visitor was met by Roar-Admiral McCalla as he stepped ashore. He was Immediately escorted es-corted to tlm commandant's, whero he was the guest of honor tit n luncheon, after which lie Inspected the yard, also visiting tho Russian vessel Lena, which Is held here by tho Government, Grand ball, Saltalr, tonight; 2 trains; closed coaches; 7;30 and S:30. |
