Show METAL MINES PRODUCTION UP Utah led all the states in value of combined production of gold, silver, copper, lead and zinc in 1940; the total value for the state in terms of recovered metalswas me-talswas $80,585,499. This output out-put compared with $62,725,551 in 1939, represents a 38 per cent gain. Greater production of all five metals (including an all-time all-time high for gold and copper) was stimulated by moderately higher price's for silver and the base metals, according to G. E. Woodward and Paul Luff in the Utah chapter from the Minerals Yearbook, Review of 1940, which has been recently released in the form of a preprint. The complete volume covering all mineral commodities, com-modities, may be purchased from the Superintendent of Documents, Washington, D. C, after August, 1941. Bingham District Tops Most of the gains in gold and copper and much of that in silver were in the Bingham district and resulted chiefly from the high rate of operations by the Utah Copper Company. The Park City region showed the greatest gain in silver, marked gains in gold and copper, and nearly doubled its 1939 production of lead and zinc, The output of each of the five metals in the Tintic district decreased. Tooele county showed show-ed a slight gain in total value of metal output, the chapter saidL |
