Show THE SCHOOL ELECTIONS c Five members of the Board of Education Edu-cation were elected In the five municipal muni-cipal wards oC this qlty yesterday There was a sharp contest In the First ward which seems to have been based to n considerable extent upon misapprehension and suspicion That this suHplclon may have had basis In past encounters may not be denied but the misapprehension with regard to Prof Cummings IB evident There seems to havo been a mistaken idea on both sides But that he will be a 1 valuable und efficient member of the Board of Education we have no doubt And we believe that those who have viewed his windldacy l with the most suspicion ulll be the readiest to acknowledge ac-knowledge their error with respect to him I m There were 116 contests In siny of the other wards Jn the Second Sir Cheesman was chosen without opposition nnd will no doubt he an active energetic member that Is i liut is moat needed Jn the Third the people could easily have done bettor and the election elec-tion 01 Sir Newman on the false issue that was raised to help him in fact puts him under a cloud us the only member who won on a distinctly sectarian sec-tarian and ulterior lesui In the Fourth Sir Young succeeds himself orinily There was no opposition oppo-sition and there was no reason for opposition Re deserves promotion und this would be a grateful recognition of existing conditions and grateful to hlmpplf and to his constituents The selection of Judge Henderson in the F Ifth was without opposition No man In the city is better qualified to be a member of the Board than Judge Hendeison and if he will be active < < and zealous he cnn do the schools great service L |
