Show DEATH OF OLD PIONEER Mrs Catherine Corless a Resident of Salt Lake Since 1848 Died in Her 95th Year I Mrs Catherine Corless died at her I home In this city yesterday at the cx Iremc age of 95 years Tho deceased was a remarkable woman Until two years ago when her health began to I fall aha enjoyed tho use of nil her faculllcs Bho had a sweet disposition and greatly enjoyed society She grow old gracefully Two weeks ago she was confined to her bed through weakness and gradually sank llll death came peacefully I Mrs Corless whose former name was Slevcnson was horn in Langlon Eng land when she married Edward Cor lesR I it the age of J3 years A few years later having Joined the Mormon faith they decided to come to America and arrived In this country in lll going to Nauvoo to live where they remained for seven years when they came to Utah being among the pioneers of the State They made the trip to Utah by means of ox teams and underwent nil the hardships of early travel across the plains For some time her husband who died twentynine years ago farmed in Mill I I creek and > later moved to l this city whce he built the first house In the Fourth ward In whIch Robert the youngest son was the first child born In the ward Mrs Corless was very wqll known In the cIty and there is probably apt one of the old residents of the city who did not have an acquaintance with her She WHS the mother of five sons all I of whom live In Utah and are engaged In different occupations They are Thomas and Robert of Salt Lake John and William of Randolph and Henry of Vernal She also leaves twenty eight grandchildren and over fifty greatgrandchildren For the hirtt two years Mrs Corlcss had been living with her oldest son Thomas at Jn West Seventh South KireeL The funeral services will be held at the Fourlh ward meetinghouse next Tuesday probuhlj at 2 oclock although the exact hour will not he set unlll the HOUK living outsIde of the city arc heard from |
