heard from later on NEW RAILROAD PROPOSITION The Virginia Truckcc Railroad company has under contemplation the building of a branch line from this city through Carson valley to points south The surveys for forty miles have been completed and show that the road will be easily constructed and having plenty plen-ty of rolling stock on hand they can build the road comparatively cheap This matter will doubtless como up for decisive consideration at the annual meeting of the company which taken place here on the 13th of next month There is no doubt that It would be a splendid and very profitable Investment Invest-ment pa lnS from the start for Carson valley itself Is one of the finest and wealthiest agricultural sections for Us size on the Pacific roast I would also open out the valuable mining and timber tim-ber resources of Alpine and other adjacent ad-jacent counties along the western base of the Sierra Novadas la Neaa Those mining resources have grown rapidly Into Importance Im-portance within the last year especially especi-ally and the big Vulcan smelter now being constructed near Gnrdnervllle twenty miles from here which will be In operation within four or five weeks will start with a great accumulation of good ore from various mines In that section All of which together with newly developed agricultural Interests will be tributary to the new road RENOS GRAND BOOM Reno has been so persistently and enthusiastically boomed during the last year or two that as a result the town Is flooded with a terrific floating population popu-lation which Is difficult to dispose or take care of The papers were filled with glowing Items of building progress pro-gress houses going up In all directions and many more projected new enterprises enter-prises centering In and everything goIng go-Ing ahead with a rush population Increasing In-creasing fast until the outside world became Imbued with the belief that Reno was the chief bonanza place to go for employment of all kinds Then there was the railroad cutoff being built bringing In many hundreds more from the East and the consequence was that there were two or three dozen men for one mans Job the town became overcrowded over-crowded with the unemployed and the papers had to stop booming and tell people to keep awny no work and no room for them Another consequence of the booming rush was l big general raise in rents all over town causing a mad howl from everybody renting and especially from the business people who are declaring that In many cascfi rents have advanced ad-vanced to a figure unwarranted by the real business conditions that there was more real business done last year at thin time than there Is today New people rushing into Reno they say have created a temporary demand for business locations and 3 tendency to overdo business but building and booming cannot always last and someday some-day people with big dreams will wake up to the real condition of things A RICH CLEANUP The dismantling of the old Mexican I mill at Empire on Carson river means something more than merely the removal re-moval and disposal of the vast amount of machinery boilers batteries and pans The
