NOT IN TH HOSPITAL I Escaped From Four Swift f Sidewalk Bicycles in the Paved District j Editor Tribune I wikh to release a few thoughts on the bicycle question I dont want to knock and I dont want to stir up any trouble 1 merely wish to state what I believe to be the experience of a great many people of the city I dont want to be considered consid-ered the enemy of the wheelmen I ride a wheel occasionally myself and hope to continue riding for many years to come I insist that the wheelmen have rights and that a n class they are entitled to recognition I think It is all right that they should be permitted permit-ted to ride on the sidewalks in certain parts of the city especially when us Is now tho ruse the streets arc In poor condition for wheeling I have no casualties cas-ualties to report because 1 am pretty shifty on my feet and quick In duckIng duck-Ing but I can readily perceive how people less accomplished than myself In sidestepping could have taken a leading part in a collision if I they had been In my place last night Within one block no less than four bicycles all cutting out a pretty fair pace brushed by me and this right in the business district I have no suggestions sugges-tions to offer I understand there is a city statute preventing riding on the sidewalks In this section and I rest secure in the knowledge that I am under un-der the protection of the strong arm of the law I merely I wrote this because be-cause I thought you might be glad to know I am well despite my narrow escapes A J r
