Show BOTH MEN ACQUITTED Jury Beturns Verdict of Not Guilty in tho Miller and Johns Bribery Canes Cincinnati Nov 20D V Miller of Terre Haute and Joseph JT Johns of Rockville Tad were tonight acquitted of the charge of conspiracy to extort a bribe from John J Ryan made by the Postolilce Department The verdict of not Etiilty was received by thc crowd with demonstrations that cpuld not be suppressed by the court officers As soon as the court adjourned and JudGe Albert C Thompson had retired pandemonium broke loose among thc jollifying friends of the defendants from Indiana and others and continued for some time I Miller and Johns and Attorneys Hiram D Kulieon and Charles W Baker and others were overwhelmed with congratulations The prefaent trial began last Monday morning Thc jury retired shortly be fore 3 Z oclock this afternoon and rendered ren-dered its verdict after deliberating six hours It Is understood that a majority was for acquittal from the start and that it took some time to go over all I the documents that had been submitted i submit-ted In evidence before a unanimous verdict was reached Jt Is generally understood that there was doubt as to Mllicrs connection with the tranfictlons between Johns and Ryan The Government officials tate that this case was not like any of the other postal cases that are pencl ing as this case simply dealt with the action of Miller I when he was an Assistant As-sistant AttorneyGeneral In the Post office Department |
