Show I A Matter of Kissing An Interesting anecdote recently published in the Atchison Globe has started start-ed a discussion which threatens to spread with unexpected speed to l many parts 1 oC the country It appears that recently a young man who lives In Atchison was fined 20 for kissing a pretty young married woman He was arrested for the offense and when brought to trial It developed that he had come to the ladys house to deliver some groceries In his own behalf ho said that when he entered the kitchen he found the lady In n long apron with her hands In t pan of dough I thought he said she was the hired girl and so I kissed her Well snid the Judge ill wasnt the hired girl so I will fine you 20 This sententious disposal of the matter does not please the Kansas City Journal P which points out that a lot of legal nn ethical questions are Involved to which I rl the Judges decision docs not satisfactorily apply The young man testified as though It were a matter of course that1 grocery boy should kiss 1 0 pretty hired girl when ho found her In a long apron with her hands In the family dough The decision of the Judge seems also to carry with It the Idea that the offending ii of the yountc man was due entirely to the mistake which he made In personages person-ages The logic of the Judicial language which we have quoted Is that if It hod 1 teen th m hired girl Instead of the mistress there would be no fine of So And ill J froir this rolrit of view it is obvious that our domestic affairs are In need 11 some overhauling if I we are to be strIctly fair and Just with the young men who bring us groceries How for Instance is a t young man to tell in every caao i when he Is confronted by i pretty woman In apron and dough whether she lathe la-the maid or the mistress I seems to an Impartial mind that we are askingf I too much of the busy young men who serve us so faithfully What we need Is t some badge of distinction by which the grocery man can > tell at 0 glance J whether hp Is dealing with maid or mistress I our wives are prone to longl aprons and hands In dough they should wear a label reading I am the mlsti tress pleuse dont kiss me New Orleans Picayune I o v |
