Show MERGER DECISION No Word Received by 1 S Attorney for Minnesota From Gen Knox Indicating In-dicating Change in Position I St Paul April ISUp to a laic hour I this afternoon United States Attorney C I C Haupt had received no word from At torneyGeneral Knox Indicating I any change from his Intention to resist every attempt to suspend any part ot the decree de-cree against tho Korlhcrn Securities company 3 I J Although tho United State has no I financial lutcrnst said Mr Haupt today It I Is I the desire of the AttorneyGeneral to have the decree made by the Circuit court remain In force until the Supreme court llnally passes on the matter There Is undoubtedly a large number of innocent Inventors in the stock of the Northern Securities company and these people may sulTcr 1C the dividend Is not paid May 1st but it Is I my opinion that the Government will either Instruct me tocontinue to resist the application of the contnuo merger counsel else ask that the hearing hear-ing on the application be continued until the other Judges meet In S1 Paul to sit us the Circuit Court of Appeals In May1 Mr Haupt has forwarded to Washington Washing-ton an account of the proceedings before Judge Sanborn when the appeal for modification modi-fication of the decree was made by the attorneys t at-torneys for tho Northern Securities company com-pany He also distinctly btntetf In his message to the AttorneyGeneral that all the Northern Securities company wants IB permission t pay tho quarterly divl dent to the persons to whom the money miiHt in any event eventually go This promise was given by Mr Haupt at the hearing yesterday at the request of Mr C W Dunn who stated that at this stage of the proceedings all other provisions of tho decree wore of comparatively llttlo importance as they did not Involve the payment to or icing up of money belonging be-longing to Investors If the Government decides not to resist the application of the merger counsel an order may bo granted suspending tlo dc cmreo to tho extent desired In tho ovont of the hearing being continued con-tinued until the other Judges of the Circuit Cir-cuit court reach St Paul May 4th in tho earliest date on which tho application can be disposed of and In that cane tho stock owners will bo compelled to wait a week for their dividends |
