NATIONAL GUARD Just now the thing that Is interesting every member of the National Guard of the State is 1 hether or not they are to have a now armory A committee of olllcors is to wait on the Legislature to urge the claim oi the members of the Guard A structure to be built In the city at a cost of not less than 3 20 000 Is to be asked for With a new armory the guardsmen feel they would have a good chance of advancing both In the matter of membership mem-bership and efficiency Not only would an attractive armory bring desirable recruits to the ranks It I Is urged but would also have an Influence in Inducing Induc-ing a more lively interest in the work With a new and suitable armory the officers and men believe Utahs militia will have an equal chance to become as efficient as the militia organizations of Eastern States where armories arc maintained The best results cannot be expected when various cramped and unsuitable buildings are rented At the present armory the guardsmen say there Is not only insufficient room for quarters but far too small a space for a drill hall and storage quarters for valuable ordnance and quartermasters supplies Several enthusiasts believe that no sooner is a new and modern armory assured as-sured than several new companies can easily be recruited in the State
