Show Resident Over Half Century Paid Tribute At Funeral Services Funeral services for Mrs. Sophia So-phia Bemis were held Tuesday afternoon in the Masonic temple tem-ple at 650 East South Temple street, Salt Lake City. She died in St. Mark's hospital last Saturday Satur-day after a lingering illness. In September she fell and broke her hip and had not been in good health since. Mrs. Bemis was the widow of Fred H. Bemis and had lived in Bingham about 57 years, witnessing witness-ing this city's growth from its beginning as a straggling mining camp. She was born in Sweden, August 20, 1860. The Reverend L. Buchanan of Midvale officiated and Martha chapter lodge No. 7, Order of Eastern Star, conducted services at the funeral. Two vocal duets were given by Miss Rachel 'Connor and Miss Virginia Colyar with Robert Rob-ert Colyar as accompanist. Pallbearers were George Robbe, C. E. Adderley, Harry Pitts, EI liott W. .Evans, William Grant and O. C. Jones. Mrs. Bemis was a member of Martha chapter, O.E.S., the A-merican A-merican Legion auxiliary and the No. 1 Firemen's auxiliary. Surviving are a son, Fred Be- mis, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. ceme-tery. I i |
