Show ARE GIVEN rnPLoMs Graduates of Three Institutions Institu-tions Are Rewarded CROWDS ATTEND EXERCISES Six Graduates at Salt Lake Collegiate Institute Deliver Pleasing Orations Diplomas Given the Howland Hall Graduates by Bishop Leonard I at St IIarks Cathedral Commencement Com-mencement Exercises of the Latter l Day Saints College Address by President Snow A graduating class of six participated last night in the twentieth annual exercises ex-ercises of the Salt Lako Collocate institute In-stitute at the First Presbyterian church Three who had completed tho I classical course were Robert Amos Graham and Theodore IlauerbachX of Salt Lake and Caleb Creed McClaln of SmlthHcld Utah The three who coin pletcd the Latin and scientific course were Mary Edna Ilamlll of Wells Nev Albert Clcjnenson Blohm of I Palestine Or and George AlvIn Sperry of Nonhi For the occasion the church was prettily 1 pret-tily decorated with potted flowers and palms and amid a festoon of greenery I on the wall back of the rostrum was the legend in white and gold The class of 1901 At the rear was a table I laden with bouquets of roses and I other blossoms for the graduates The edifice was filled with tho patrons and friends of the Institution and the students occupying the front seats arled the programme of the graduates I with songs pleasingly rendered Principal R J Caskey was master flf ceremonies The Invocation was given by Rev George WV Marshall of Manii and Rev Dr McNlece pronounced pro-nounced the benediction The orations of the graduates were of exceptional merit both In the treat meat of the allotted subjects and In the manner of delivery Albert Blohm gave a strong word portraiture of Andrew Carnegie the Philanthropist and I George Sperry made a thoughtful analysis of Monarchy In the Nineteenth I Nine-teenth Century A eulogy of Queen Victoria was delivered In a delightful way by Miss Hamlll Benjamin Harrison Har-rison received praise from Robert Graham Gra-ham and Caleb McClaln touched upon the Asiatic problem in discussing the Rise of Russia America as f World Power containing some critlclsm of the present Governmental policy was the topic of Theodore llauerbachs oration Miss Florence Uhder < vood added to the pleasure of the evening by the rendition oftwo vocal solos Principal Canlcey l presented the diplomas diplo-mas to the graduates with expressions I complimentary to their school career and of good wishes for their future I ot |
