Show HIS LIFE CRUSHED OUT V Charles Curtis Killed in the Godiva Mine Eureka WAS CAUGHT IN DRIFT When Pound b the Foreman John liriscoll the Body Was Still Warm Accident Occurred at About 8 Oclock Yesterday Horning Coroners Cor-oners Jury Returns a Verdict Stating Stat-ing Wo Blame Was Attached to the Company Curtis Leaves a Wife and Five Small Children V TRIBUNE SPECIAL V Eureka Utah Dec 13 Shortly after the morning shift went to work at the V F Godiva mine this morning Charles Curtis a fireman engaged In running cars from an ore chute on the 200Jfoot level was found dead His body was In a standing position being wedged between the car of oro and the side of the drift When found at 830 this morning by Foreman John Drlscol his body was still warm but breathing had stopped V V CRUSHED AGAINST WALL From the ore chute where the cars arc loaded the track runs on an Incline In-cline toward the main working shaft and It Is supposed that as soon as the car was fllled Curtis stepped In front and started the car moving aside to let It pass him The wall oC the drift in that particular place was so close to the track that the car struck him thus causing death There were BO serious bruises on the body and no bones were broken but it required the assistance of a couple of other workmen work-men to remove tile remains from between be-tween the car and the wall V AN INQUEST HELD After the remains had been removed to Wallaces undertaking rooms Judge Burns Impaneled a jury and an inquest In-quest was held this afternoon The jurors were W F Shrlvcr Jose Wirtb lin und E R Henderson Several witnesses after listen nesses were examined and ing to their testimony and visiting the scene of the accident the jury rendered ren-dered a verdict staling that Curtis camo to his death by being wedged between be-tween n car and the wall of a drift ire the Godiva mine No blame was attached at-tached to the company Mr Curtis was 38 years of age and V leaves a wife and five small children The funeral will probably be held hero Sunday |
