Show NEW ATHLETIC CLUB PUGILISTIC ASSOCIATION IS FORMED IN SALT LAKE Old Armory on West Temple Secured For Clubrooms Good Mon to Bo Opening in January An association for the promotion of fistic contests Is being organized In the city under the name of the Salt Lake Athletic club I Is the Intention of the promoters to give an exhibition once every month the first exhibition to occur during the meeting of the livestock live-stock convention next month The old armory hal on West Temple has been secured for tho purpose of holding the contests The building can be fitted up to accommodate something over two thousand people The main room Is circular In shape I Is the intention to have the ring laced in the center of this room and to have the Heats banked up around It to the wails thus enabling all who secure seats to have an unobstructed I structed view of tho proceedings In the JlnTom Tom Bennett has been selected president presi-dent of the club and will also act as referee of the main events William Sours has 1cen chosen secretary and will usslst Harry Stone as manager They arc associated with several other Salt Lakers who do not desire to figure prominently In the matter but who according ac-cording to he officers named possess abundant financial resources to Insure the success of the enterprise and to offer of-fer purses that will bring tho best talent to Salt Lake Mr Stone leaves for Denver today and will endeavor to secure some good men there for the opening evening I is Intended to have a fifteenround and a twentyround go that night with n number of short preliminaries lie will try to get Paddy Purtell nufc Turner and others to come hero for the first frst night Letters have been sent to PhI and George Green and Al I Nell of California fornia and It thought sufficient Inducements In-ducements can be offered to bring these men here next month Snider Kelly Is expected to unit along shortly and an offer wH be made him An offer will also be sent to Mosc LaFontlse of Butte and Dick Case who Is well known In Salt Lake Case spent the last summer In Nome but Is now In Seattle and Is open for business The date of the opening exhibition I will be arranged so as not to conflict with any of the arrangements made by I other parties for the entertainment ot the visiting stockmen Tho railroads j I 1 have promised to run special trains from Provo and Ogden the frOT1 n specials to leave Salt Lake for homo half an hour after the exhibition Is acer exhlblon over Additional details concerning tho club and tIme opening nights programme are promised within n few days |
