Show DR MACLEANS PRIZE STOCK HIS CALVES WERE THE BEST AT CHICAGO SHOW Manager of His Ranch in Colorado Will Bring the Calves Here for Exhibition Ex-hibition in January The success of the livestock < show In January seems already assured Utah and Idaho breeders will be well icprc wcntcd and there will be some top nolchcrs In cattle from other Slates he Newcomb herd of Galloway calves which captured a first prize at the In I tcrnallonal show at Chicago this week is to be brought here for exhibition and their appearance will be a mater ot local pride because they are owned by Dr A C Maclean of this city They were raised on his ranch at La Jura Cob The manager D B Nowcomb has written to the doctor that he will attend the livestock convention and will bring tho blueblooded calves along The doctor Is Justly proud of his prize winners John Sparlcss Nevada show held ulii be brought from tho r Chicago show and perhaps others will be secured The Denver Times has the following to say of tho Maclean herd Tho dispatches state that Daniel E Newcomb of La Jara Colo secured first prize In the rangebred calf clas I Ills exhibit was a bunch of twenty Galloways that had been bred from registered bulls and highgrade cows Ills competitors were from the largest In the world that range In AVyomlng I and the Texas Panhandle but the Judges were unanimous In awarding them first premium Besides this winning I win-ning these calves also took first and I i third prizes in competition with calves from Colorado and Western Kansas and Nebraska and sweepstakes In competi tion with Texas Colorado and Wyoming Wyo-ming IJJs cash prizes amounted to 500 1 Mr Newcomb has been breeding Galloway cattle In the San Luis valley for about ten years He has an Ideal location for the purpose and as he Is a student of this particular breed he Is making n success of his enterprise Hundreds of his product are spread over Colorado Texas Wyoming Kansas Kan-sas and Nebraska and lust year after his first prize winnings at the Denver range cattle show where he swept everything ev-erything before him he Cuilt up a 1 paying trade In some of the Slates I cast of the Mississippi |
