Show AIDING STUDENTS What Board of Education of Methodist Metho-dist Church Has Done I New York Dec Grrhe annual report re-port of the work of the board of education edu-cation of the Methodist Episcopal church has just been made here Joseph S Stout the treasurer presented pre-sented a report showing that the amount of money loaned directly to students In the last year was 81794 The students aided were 1830 In number distributed as follows In the New England States 213 in the Middle States 122 In tho Western States S51 In the Southern States 315 and foreign students 29 They represented altogether alto-gether twentyone different nationalities nationali-ties The legacies to the board during the year amounted to 28945 including the legacy by William Gold thorp to the amount of 21208 The Income of the board during the year was from the following sources Childrens day collections COi2S from Invested funds 14485 returned loans 25377 The report of the corresponding secretary sec-retary William F Dowcll showed that l at the beginning of the century the I schools 6f the Methodist Episcopal church were accurately represented by Bishop Fowlers dramatic phrase The ashes of ono college but that at present I pres-ent tho Methodist church has an investment l invest-ment of more than 30000000 In schoolo I and colleges and that the church has added to the permanent funds devoted to education an average of nearly 500 I 000 a year during the last seventy years |
