City Count the rules were suspended during dur-ing the presentation Of reports of city olllcers and resolutions and ordinances were taken up Robertson Introduced a resolution providing pro-viding for the appropriation oC 15750 to the Mayors contingent fund fou the payment of 7500 to Martin Garn for the GarnArmstrong ranch In Parleys canyon and SS250 for payment to Edward Ed-ward Laird for his lands Whlttemore moved as an amendment that 0500 be added for the purchase of William i Naylors lands but the amendment was vigorously opposed by Robertson who I contended that the Naylor property was not worth fo exceed half of 6500 and that the city would secure but I little additional water thereby I MAJORITY FAVORED JT Whlttemore 1 Canning Fernstrom Cottrcll and Davis favored the purchase pur-chase and the amendment was adopted adopt-ed Upon the final vote Robertson voted no because of the fact that the amount for the Naylor tract was included in-cluded but all the members present voted in tho affirmative INCREASED BONUS DEFEATED The Finance committee olfifered a resolution providing for a donation of 5000 to the Rio Grande Western HalL way company in consideration the company removing the old Utah Central Cen-tral tracks on Eighth South and in tho southeastern part of the city within pne year Fernstrom opposed the resolution on Xhc ground that tho city could not afford I af-ford to donate such a large amount I Which was 52000 In excess ot w hat the fclty had originally offered Robertson I and Canning also opposed It while Thomas favored it Mr Thomas said jthe city would get the amount backthe first year in taxes and that it was also the duty of the city to have the tracks removed from the vicinity of Liberty park In order that the people might attend at-tend that resort without fear of injury jury from trains S LOST ON TIE VOTE At the conclusion of the discussion Whitlemore moved that the matter be 4 laid over for one week but the motion I failed The motion to adopt the resolution reso-lution was then put and lost by the following tie vote YeasCanning Hewlett Thomas Whlttemore I and Buckle 5 Nays Cottrell Fernstrom Davis Reid and Robertson This leaves the amount 53000 as It was before be-fore the 5000 resolution was presented Tho ordinance providing for the sale of the waterworks bonds was amended by the Insertion of a clause pledging the citys credit for the payment oC interest In-terest and principal and as amended was passed WATER AGREEMENT REFERRED At this time the regular order was resumed The agreement heretofore entered into by the attorneys in the case by which the Salt Lake City Water and Electrical Power company Is permitted to use the waters of the city canal as formerly for a period of about four months was presented
