Show EDMINSTON REGRETS ACT Secretary Populist Committee Hopeful Hope-ful Towne Would Stick Lincoln Neb Aug ViceChair man Edmiston of the Populist national I committee tonight gave to the Associated Asso-ciated Press a statement on the withdrawal t with-drawal of Mr Towne He conceded the logic of Mr Townes letter declared I de-clared that Air Townes conduct had been patriotic throughout and continued con-tinued I I cannot consider this action without 1 with-out expressing my sincere rogroL that lIt t has transpired My earnest hope I has been that Mr Tone would remain I upon the ticket und that he would make a canvass of the country At Kansas City when the national I committee was In session I was au thorised In the event of Mr Townes withdrawal to assemble the committee commit-tee at an early date for the purpose oC taking tho same under consideration and for tho purpose of naming some I other of the Peoplea party to fill such vacancy This 1 shall do First before I f be-fore taking any officIal action 1 prefer I pre-fer to meet the executive committee at I Chicago It was called a few days ago I to meet on August 9th I desire to confer con-fer with Senator Butler chairman of the national committee and with the leaders of the party I I have no doubt however that the j patriotism and spirit for an honest government will guide the action of all members of the Peoples party In their declaration and In considering these matters pending the action of their committee I desire to assure one and all throughout the length and breadth ofthe country that tho name or time Peoples party and Its Interests politically politi-cally and otherwise rfhall be protected and fostered |
