Show WHEELMEN ON SIDEWALKS I Two Arrested and Officer Davies on Lookout for Others 0 R Meredith Jr and Will Scheldc two cyclists while riding their wheels yesterday afternoon on the sidewalk of East Second South street were nabbed by Ofllcer Davies and taken to Jail The offenders protested Innocence oC wrongdoing setting forth the usual plea that they did not know that Mayor Thompson had vetoed the ordinance I opening certain portions of tho restricted re-stricted districts to wheelmen In winter They were told that they must offer their excuses to Judge TImmony and to Insure their presence beforethe bar of Justice they left their wheels for bail S I bailOflicer Oflicer Davies says that in the future he will enforce the letter of the law relative to wheelriding on prohibited sidewalks A large number of cyclists seem to be pedaling toward Police court Chief Hilton said last evening that the ordinance would be enforced so far as It could be Of course he said awe have but ono man to look out for violations of the ordinance and he can not be expected to cover the entire city but we will do the best we can under the circumstances Judge TImmony said that so far aa he waa concerned the plea that riders believed that the proposed ordinance was in force and the city was thrown open to them would not he considered in any future cases |
