Show BURLINGTONS BIG PLAN Western Lines Each to be Extended MAIN LINE TO SALT LAKE From Denver Via Lyons a Line Is to be Built Northwest to Strike MainLine Main-Line to TJfcxh The Cody Line Will bo Pushed on to Skirt the Yellowstone Yellow-stone and Thence to North Pacific Connections at Salt Lake With New Los Angeles Road Railroad Notes 1 Time and again has It been told that the Burlington Is coming to Utah and the story Is growing to be an old one But it Is none the less Interesting to know that another party Is In the east mountains looking for an entrance to Salt Luke The almost certainty of the W A Clark and Los Angeles Terminal project being successfully carried out has evidently spurred on the Burlington and when the Los Angeles trains arc running they can connect at Salt Lake with the Burlington Bur-lington as well as the Oregon Short Line Rio Grande Western and Union Pacific for the East and North Tho Burlingtons line Is i an InterestIng Interest-Ing one Hi furthest western point Is Billings Mont From Toluca Mont on the same line a branch road Is being be-ing built southwest to Cody Wyo and It Is claimed this branch will skirt the Ycllowstonn park and go on to Seattle or Portland The Utah line will be an extension of the line now completed to Guernsey Wyo mid from Lyons Cola a line Is also projected to run northwest to connect con-nect with the GuernseySalt Lake line This would give the Burlington a line of its own from Denver to Salt Lake as well as from Omaha and Chicago to Salt Lake The surveying party now In the cast mountains Is but one of several such outfits at work for the Burlington dur the last your and lines have been run In every conceivable direction The one being worked out at present is the extension of the Guernsey line direct x to Salt Lake By connecting here with the proposed pro-posed Los Angeles road it would have the shortest passenger route from Chicago from the Black Hills of Dakota Da-kota and from Denver to Los Angeles and San Pedro and a fair passenger line from St Louis from Minneapolis and Kansas City to the Pacific The Billings line In this connection would have little bearing but for freight It and all the other branches of the tJya tern 7S5S miles In all would prove a mighty big help to the Los Angeles road and derive an equally important traffic from the new road It is said the new line from Log Angeles will not tie up with any one road but will be open to all Salt Lake connections The Burlington having Its own line however would give it a certain advantage and it would be able to hold Its own In any proposition proposi-tion No matter how the connections will bo effected the coming of the two roads would give Salt Lake such a boom as no Western city has ever seen |
