Show FIVE RACES ON THE SAUCER IVEB LAWSON WINS THE PIVE MILE EVENT J Eddio Smith and A W Smith First in the Tandem Handicap Amateur V Other I Good Baces V For a cold night and the big attraction attrac-tion at the Theater the attendance at last nights races on the Salt Palace saucer was very good There wore flvii races the last and most Important being be-ing the fivemile race which was won by Ivor Lawson In the halfmile prolesslonal handicap handi-cap Chapman won the first heat from 3S yards In 59 26 and Hodgert won the second trial heat from 75 yards in the same time Ivor Lawson beincr thrown out by a punctured tire The final and deciding heat was a very close I struggle exciting much Interest and was captured by W A Rut In 57 45 I Vaughn second Hodgert third Gus 1 Lawson fourth V I Fred Meakln won the first onemile trial heat of the two miles open amateur ama-teur race In 213 25 tho second heat fell to W K Samuclson in 213 35 and the final two miles heat was won by W E Kamuelson In 406 45 W F King second and A W Smith third Meakm falling out after a few laps had been run Burrls was first but was disqualified Ior elbowing This race was A W Smlthn first appearance appear-ance since being Injured a month ago and was won by Eddie Smith und A W Smith from 65 yards In 157 35 with the Ilcagren brothers second Meakln I and Samuclson third and Burna and King fourth The five miles open professional race was prefaced by iwo onemile qualifying qualify-ing heats which were won respective I ly I hy Jver Lavson In 207 t5 and Gus Lawson in 205 15 Tho final and main heat was 1 won by Iver Lawson in a stiff sprint on the last half of time fifth mile In 10 15 25 Chapman was second Gus I I Lawson third and Rutz fourth Calm dropped out at the end of the first mile The times by miles were first 2OD 25 I second 100 lhlrtOJl 25 fourth I 818 25 fifth 1015 2G The music was very good The Blue and the Gray being encored I The Salt Palace closes for the season f I on Sunday night but the bicycle track I I will be kept open until further notice |
