of Mobile hay and Manila bay Tho four girls taking the affirmative side that the Mobile bay battle was of greater importance were Grace Living stone Irene Short Mattie Duncan and tara Shaw against Thomas Brighton Wesley Wilson Sand ford Hedges andS and-S Thomas Wood who supported the negative Both sides were well prepared pre-pared and Well sustained but the Judges Ilnally decided In favor of the affirmative to the great delight of the gIrls The JUpils of Miss Wigginss room seventh grade were guests of I room S and greatly enjoyed the discussion dis-cussion Simon Bumbericer was present I teacher Institute ever held In the Sound country between five and six I thousand teachers being In attendance The Tacoma Hhools were closed for the week to give the teachers the benefit bene-fit of the Institute She met several former Salt Lake teachers who are now teaching in Seattle Miss i Holton was the guest of honor at several luncheons and two receptions one of I which was given by 1 President Graves of the University of Washington She also spoke at the t Inland Empire Teachers j Teach-ers association which comprises the States of Idaho Oregon and Washington Washing-ton at Pendlclon Ore Or-e Miss May Mayne left Friday evening for Omaha Though still very weak from her recent illncss her physician thought It bestfor her to get to a lower low-er ajtltude as soon ns possible where it Is hoped rest and change will restore her to health Miss Mayne has mll friends here who regret exceedingly that she was obliged to give up her herS work and their best wishes will numerous questions asked The beginners from Mrs McKays room sang C sweet spring song Bernice and Gwendolen Carlson gave C piano duct and Alice Larson a piano solo The parents organized an association pupil at the Collegiate institute 1 but has been teaching at Mercur the past year She leaves today for her home In Nevada Miss Foole of Evanston schools wan a visitor at the Franklin and other schools of the organization orga-nization of the Salt Lake Collegiate institute in-stitute by Prof John J foyner The ulmunl and friends of the school vlll give a social on that evening in the basement of the First Presbyterian church the room In which the school started All former patrons pupils and friends of the institution are invited In-vited to be present to hear the plans for tIC celebration of the anniversary in June when Prof Coyner will be present |
