Show R GKERENS ARRiVES Railroad Official Talks of l New Road I IGiVES GIVES FURTHER ASSURANCES los AnpelesSalt Lake Line Surely to be Built as an Independent Road Money is Heady and Only Preliminaries Prelimi-naries Necessary Before Work Cnn be Commenced Freight Hates VIllI be at Once Restored Correspondent I flakes Pica for Deep Crek Route for Now Line Hailroad Notes I Hon R C Kerens of St Louis arrived ar-rived in the city yesterday in his private pri-vate car Catherine He was accompanied accom-panied by 1 his son Richard and S A Bemis Mr Kerens has been one of the foremost men in the fight for a free harbor at San Pedro and Is one of the leading men of the Los Angeles Terminal I I Termi-nal For ten years he has been at work on the extension of that road to Salt r Lake and now he expects to see the I realization of his hopes In the actual construction of the line on the plan already al-ready detailed In spealclng of the matter last night I Mr Kerens said there was no doubt at all that the road would be built but there was little he could add to what has already been told of the purpose of Senator Clark the Los Angeles Terminal Termi-nal and others to push tho road through He said he was here to meet I Senator Clark who will arrive next Monday and as the financial arrangements arrange-ments have all been successfully made nothing remains but to organize the company secure the needed franchises and begin work It will he an absolutely independent line Mr Kerens reiterates and has no connection with any other corporation beyond the expected traffic arrangements arrange-ments which may be made in the future or trackage rights In California which nSay be economical or necessary The line itself however Is to be operated and owned asnn Independent Salt I LakeLos Angeles line and those two cities will be greatly benefited by Its construction as southern California is the mecca for tourists and San Pedro is the coming port on the Pacific Then too the freight traffic developed devel-oped by the new line will be very great The projectors have carefully considered consid-ered the coal and Iron of Utah and the development of these resources wllh tho great sulphur deposits will likely be a prominent feature of thc building of the road There Is to be no request for financial aid and Salt Lake Is only to be asked for such concessions as would place the new line on an equality with oilier roadsby giving It right of way and terminal ter-minal facllllles All these matters will be fully discussed at the public meetings meet-ings so that all will fully understand the situation Thepeople who are behind the project are ready to begin work the moment these minor details are settled and the line will eventually prove to be one of the most Important links In the transcontinental trans-continental routeS route-S A Bemis ho is with Mr Kerens isalso Interested In the road He needs no Introduction for his name Is known to every user of hags and flour sacks 1 in the State He Is the head of the great Bemis Bag company of St Louis nn Omaha and a leading citizen of tho former city I |
