| Show DIXIE COPPER MINE Expert Report Shows Good Bodies of Valuable Ore in Sight According to the report of a competent compe-tent mining engineer the Dixie copper cop-per mine which is located about eighteen I I eight-een miles from St George Utah is J a very valuable piece of property The property was discovered oy woodcutters wood-cutters several years ago and like most of the bonanzas was purely l accidental ac-cidental A quantity of ore was found on the surface and with a HtUe work Wooly Lund and Judd who gained control of the mine shipped out iOOOOU worth of ore The work done at this limo was not for the purpose of developing I de-veloping the property but was of a character known as gophering by minors min-ors and consisted of sending down three Inclines from tho points of discovery dis-covery which finally led to the stopc where the ore was taken out Around ilfs stopo a number of uinzss drifts and uprises were made in search for ore Besides this a tunnel was run striking the main slope about midway and in the tunnel a shaft of 2OO feet was sunk This work constitutes all the workings in the mine The vein is a true Jlssure appearing in a limestone formation and is traced for over 6000 feet on the surface crossIng cross-Ing a gukh and entering tho granite I where it Js lost In the present workings work-ings it is from ir > 0 to 175 feet in width thoying that it attains great depth as no fracture could have this width ztd depth wIthout extending through several sev-eral I formations The report goes on to state that thc tunoel after passing through 200 feet of limestone enters the vein and for F sixty feet assay show S per cent lead and six ounces of silver to the ton In asouth drift oro was struck sixtyfive j feet from the tunnel and in an uprise from the tunnel fortyllvo feet from this a body of ore was encountered which assays 17 S10 per cent copper Jn other workings In the mine assays have been made from a careful sam ple of the vein showing all the way from II to 27 per cent copper Besides the copper the value of the lI posIts of lead and silver are great and average throughout all tho large bodies 12 310 per cent lead and eight ounces of silver The report dwells on the copper and 1159 tons have been measured which Js estimated to be worth 200102 gross and as the ore Is very soft and easily mined can be placed upon the market at a fair prolit The property appears to be one that Is well worth systematic developing and shows the value of the ore deposits in that quarter of the State |
