Show MILESS ARMY BILL Draft of Measure Proposed by tho General Washington Nov 2S Copies of the letter of Gen Miles to the Secretary of War submitting the draft of a proposed pro-posed bill for the reorganization of tIm army have been furnished lo tlio Military Mili-tary committees of both houses of Congress Con-gress Gen allies favors an army proper based on one man for every 1000 of the population of the country This will provide for 70730 men the army to be made up of fourteen regiments of cavalry fourteen regiments of hcivy artillery four regiments of field artillery artil-lery and thirtytwo regiments of Infantry In-fantry In addition lo these the bill provides for 50S6 noncombatants divided vas follows Quartermasters department 1000 men subsistence department de-partment 500 men engineer corps 2276 men ordnance department uPD and signal cops 720 men Provision is made for nn auxiliary force of 20000 men to serve for three venrs nnlp9 hov are discharged whenever in the opinion of the President Presi-dent such Is necessary auxiliary force to be divided Into Jnfuntry mv airy and artillery as may be renulred The bill contains elastIc provisions by which the enlisted force may he increased 1 in-creased or decreased provided the lotal strength of the army Is not Increased beyond the numbers provided by law |
