Show MWLAN LAW A MISTAKE STATE BOARD OF HEALTH DEPLORES DE-PLORES ITS ENACTMENTS Smallpox Widely Scattered Over the State and Serious Consequences May Follow The State Board of Health met yesterday yes-terday afternoon in the office of Secretary Sec-retary Bcalty in the Atlas block with Dr Beatly Dr M H Cannon Dr Wilcox of Nephl and A F Doremus present Of the other members Dr Bascom Is in Europe Dr Pike has resigned re-signed and the term of Dr Taylor of Box Elder has expired After disposition dispo-sition of routine work the board passed a resolution expressing its approval ap-proval find appreciation of the Governors Gov-ernors action In vetoing the McMil lan bill and expressing regret at the action of the Legislature in passing it over his veto Another resolution took to task those responsible for the failure fail-ure to report smallpox especially delinquent de-linquent district health officers State Medical Inspector Baker was present and made a verbal report his conclusions conclu-sions being that smallpox is widely Scattered over the Slate and every possible effort would be required to prevent most serious results next winter win-ter There was a disposition to disregard dis-regard quarantine regulations and minimize the force and extent of the disease Dr Baker was however glad lordport the growth of a sentiment through the State more favorable to vaccination I Individual expressions were that the Legislature had made a great mistake In i passing the McMillan law but the board would do the best under the circumstances Hint could be done The biennial report of the board was read and will be lllcd today with the Secretary Sec-retary of State There was congratulatory comment on the reported fact that so many local boards of health had been organized and It was also shown that It was mora possible now than ever lo secure vital statistics and the local boards were ordered Instructed to keep regular regu-lar slutlHUcs to be reported on periodically period-ically The next meeting oC the board will be cubject to calll |
