Show ACCUSED BLACKMAIL Three Denver Men Under Arrest in Louisville I Louisville March 7The arrest here I yesterday of W Gicer Campbell E ff tBenhelt and W L Dotty of Denver on charges of conspiracy to falsely prosecute prose-cute was followed today by a suit for 1 heavy damages against them nld George W Bramblett und J M Fetter of Louisville it was filed by Judge I Thomas F Hnrgls of Louisville The three first named are accused of blackmailing Justice Hargis and forcing him to pay to them 3500 In cash und 513250 claims held by him against the North Cumberland Manufacturingcom I pnny and against the Commonwealth I Land and Lumber company Judge Hargis says that hc acceded to the demands Avhcn threatened with I I prosecution nnd wIth a publication of certain charges against him The petitioner peti-tioner asks that Campbell Bolty and Bennett be compelled to pay him 18500 as damages hu asks that the same defendants de-fendants and Bramblett pay him 510000 the alleged value of bonds belonging to Mrs Hargis and alleged to have been improperly transferred by Bramblett to Campbell and others Fetter Ismaric I a defendant Urccovcr a power oC attorney I attor-ney given him by Judge Hargls > Judge Hargis also asks for 550000 punitive damages and for the production produc-tion und cancellation of the power of attorney given Fetter In the Police Court today the cases against Campbell Dotty and Bennett Averc posed until March 23rd the cOin monwealth not being ready for trial Tonight however Judge Ilnrgfs announced an-nounced that all differences between him and the Denver men had been amicably adjusted at a conference held I this afternoon and that nil suits would be dismissed This does not apply to the Avarrant sworn out by P halt Miller Mil-ler of Louisville chargIng the Denver man with conspiracy to falsely prosecute prose-cute Attorney Bennett for the Campbell slilo of the case tonight refused to deny or jinirin Judge JJardss announcement announce-ment |
