Show MARRIED AND ESCAPED JAIL JAIL DEPUTY SHERIFF CUMMINGS S TURNS PARSON Started Out to Arrest a Young Man and Ended by Marrying Him to Girl He Wronged Force of circumstances yesterday afternoon af-ternoon compelled Deputy Sheriff Cum ming who started out to make an arrest ar-rest to substitute n marriage license for the warrant of the court and instead in-stead of throwing his victim into u dark and noisome prison cell he cast him Into the tolls of matrimony On Friday afternoon a young girl of good appearance called at the office oft of-t County Attorney and made a complaint com-plaint against a young man charging him with fornication The young man was supposed to be In Tooele county attending to his sheep and Deputy Sheriff Cummings armed with a warrant war-rant was on his way to the depot to take the train for Tooele when he accidentally ac-cidentally met the man he wanted In the street and placed him under arrest ar-rest The young fellow without hesi tation admitted his guilt and eagerly inquired If h6 could not be permitted to right the wrong an far ith possible by marrying the girl who was In a delicate condition Assistant County Attorney Loofbourow was consulted and readily agreed to the proposition A carriage was secured and the vnuurr mnn viiii Deputy Cummings and Assistant Coun ty Attorney L9ofbourow drove to the address in Waterloo whloh the girl had given the day before but she had gone out and It took them two hours driving over the southern part of the city to locale her She put no dlfllcul ties In the way of the arrangement pro posed by the young man and all four drove to time residence of County Clerk Jones and obtained a marriage license The next question was who should per form the ceremony Deputy Sheriff Cummlngs by virtue of his office as an elder In the Mormon church had the necessary authort and ho forthwith tied the knot Assistant County Attor ney Loofbourow and County Clerk James subscribing os witnesses to the ceremony The couple seemed very pleased at the way the affair terminated termi-nated and Mr Loofbourow said he left them so happy he Is thinking of starting a matrimonial bureau |
