Show NEWS OF THE GUARD AdjtGen Burton Issued a requisition requisi-tion on the War department yesterday for new Infantry equipment for over 300 men A requisition for equipment for a fournun batten of field artillery has also been forwarded to Washington The field pieces asked for from the Government are to replace those taken from the ordnance of the Guard and left In I the Philippines by the Utah artillery Eight of the guns which were 32Inch field rifles of the SI model were taken and tho State hopes to get In return four 32Inch guns of the more modern 91 model The Government has already adjusted the States claim on other ordnance supplies and for the expenses of mustering In volunteers during the late war a a a Lieut Grow and Lieut Webb late of the Utah artillery are hard at work getting together good men for a crack infantry company Both report success In getting desirable names on the rolls and they hope to have the company in readiness for mustering in within the next three months Quite a number of the former batterymen who served with Lieuts Webb and Grow have announced their Intention to enter the new company As soon as the artillery equipage arrives It is Intended that the company shall be transformed Into a battgry to man the new mms up Tho work of arranging the details of the fall encampment is already under way at Guard headquarters The camp of instruction will begin the latter part of August and continue for one month Camp will probably be pitched on the lower parade grounds at Fort Douglas a a oil Now Is the time to enlist for servIce In the Guard That organization Is be ing upbuilt and desirable members are badly wanted Efforts arc being made by Col Sam Park and Cant Caine to organize a cavalry troop Tho requisite equip ment Is now ready at the armory and all that is needed Is enough names for 1 a troop rosier o S a SergL Lecomptc of the signal corps I has made application for discharge on account of leaving the State to attend West Point I a O 0 I The signal corps has adopted white trousers to bo worn with blue fatigue blouses at all turnouts The corps will I be Inspected Thursday night by Capt Grcenwald O O a Private Johnson of company A has I made application for a transfer to the 1 slcnal corps I a o a The battalion drilled Wednesday If I night with a turnout of sixty men I representing companies A B and C I |
