conven-tion on September 4th and fixed upon Provo as the place for holding it Tho reason for holding the convention at Provo was simply that the committee n thought It wise to have the conventions conven-tions meclTat different places In rotation rota-tion and decided upon Provo for this yeara meeting It was thought before the committee met that the date of holding the convention would probably be during tho latter par of August but after discussing the matter the committee decided that the first week In September would be a more suitable time The apportionment of representation at the convention from the different counties was fixed at one delegate for every fiftyfive votes or major fraction thereof cast for the Hon James T Hammond at the special election last spring This gives a said he had no desire to shirk his duty and stood ready to work for the party and all Its Interests but he had served two terms and was anxious to be relieved so that he might attend to his business affairs which he had boon forced to neglect for too long There was some opposition oppo-sition to accepting Mr Waltons resignation res-ignation but It was insisted upon and finally accepted Before this action was taken however Col George B Squires and ru S Campbell took occasion occa-sion to refer to the work performed by Mr Walton 1 under trying conditions They called attention to the fact that he had taken the party management Immediately after a great Derrfoeratlc victory and at the time he was about to retire had soon this majority re duced to a minimum and the party was left in a shape to enter the coin Ing campaign with almost a certainty of success Other speakers Joined In paying a tribute to Mr Waltons management man-agement of the affairs of tho party In this State lIne
