Show Scouts Start New Capital Improvements The merits of the Boy Scout program are being extolled by-Eagle by-Eagle Scouts in a four county area this month in preparation for the public phase of the Great Salt Lake Council building fund campaign. The Eagles, holders of scout-ing's scout-ing's highest regular award, are joining adult leaders in "telling our scouting story." The plot of their story is scouting and its role in developing young people of our nation. The Great Salt Lake Council is undertaking a $485,000 capital improvement porgram to finance a new Scout Service and training center at Fort Douglas. The program pro-gram will also finance camp improvements im-provements at Tracy Wigwam, Camp Steiner in the High Uintah and new camps in the Bear Lake area. The building at Fort Douglas will serve as nerve center of scouting activities for scouts from Salt Lake, Tooele, Summit and the South Davis area. Fred E. Curtis, Salt Lake City, is handling the Eagle speaker's program. "We think this is a fine opportunity for our Eagle scouts to demonstrate to the public why they are Eagle Scouts and how scouting has helped them," Mr. Curtis said. Mr. Curtis, Paul W. Jones and Howard Blood of Salt Lake City are coordinating the Eagle-adult program before the service clubs. The drive to ask the public for its help is scheduled to begin May 28. Ames K. Bagley of Salt Lake City is general chairman and Ezra T. Benson, a member of the Council of Twelve Apos-. ties of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is honorary chairman. |
