Show Catholic Laymen Plan for Sept. Doctrine Congress Catholic laymen from nearly every parish in Utah met Tuesday Tues-day in Salt Lake City with their Bishop, The Most Rev. Joseph Lennox Federal, to plan a statewide state-wide Congress of the Confraternity Confrater-nity of Christian Doctrine in September. The Confraternity is an organization in the church devoted to furthering religion among both youth and adults. Bishop Federal told delegates from the parishes that "The Congress Con-gress will challenge Utah Catholics Catho-lics in a vital way. It is the most ambitious setp yet taken in the diocese to reach all our fellow Catholics, but especially youth, with religious instruction. "Through the Confraternity of Christine Doctrine the laity can assume an active role in the teaching apostolate of the church. Much has been accomplished already al-ready in this regard, but so much more remains to be done. There is a place in the program for every individual and the potential poten-tial is tremendous." At least one delegate from each parish there are 32 in the state met with Bishop Federal at the Cathedral of the Madeline Rectory Tuesday afternoon and evening. Co-ordinating the state wide program was a lay executive committee. Congress sessions will be at Judge Memorial High School on Sept. 15-16. The Congress will open with' a Solemn Pontificial Mass as the Cathedral and will be preceded by a meeting of all the clergy of the diocese Sept. 14. Confraternity membership includes both clergy and laity. Its program involves teaching Christian doctrine at all levels children and adults, in addition addi-tion to home visiting, discussion groups and other activities now aimed at generating a more active ac-tive and informed laity." |
