Show the- n LEASED GRAPEVINE Salt Lake County Commissioner Commis-sioner C. W. Brady, in charge of the Salt Lake County Detention Home, this week announced ' appointment ap-pointment of W. Lloyd Bennett as superintendent. Mr. Bennett has been serving as part-time administrative assistant at the home. 1 commissioner tsraay saia Mr. Bennett will succeed Claude C. Dean who assumes the post of program director. Mr. Bennett's appoinment is effective March 1. Salary adjustments for approximately ap-proximately 650 civil service employees em-ployees in the Public Safety Department De-partment which will cost an additional ad-ditional $415,000 annually when the graduated pay scales are completed com-pleted by 1964, were approved this week by the Salt Lake City Commission. An amended ordinance calling ' for the salary adjustments for police, fire and health depart-i depart-i ment employees was submitted by Public Safety Commissioner Herbert F. Smart. Negotiations will begin soon for two parcels of land costing about $130,000 in the southwest quarter of the block east of the City and County Building site of the proposed two and a half million mil-lion dollar central library. Jennings Phillips, Jr., coordinator coordi-nator for SaltiLake City Capital Improvements; told the city commission com-mission this week that the Library Lib-rary Board would loan" another $120,000 to purchase more land in the area. The Salt Lake Municipal Airport's Air-port's new construction program costing $367,300 with $246,522 to be paid by the Federal Aviation Avia-tion Agency, will begin in the spring, Parks Commissioner L. C. Romney, in charge of the airport, said this week. Mrs. Helen L. Lentz has been appointed retirement counselor , for the Utah Public Employees Retirement System. Leonard W. McDonald, executive director, announced that Mrs. Lentz would fill the vacancy created when N. Owen Catmull resigned from the position Jan. 1. Salt Lake City Commission this week . approved the reappointment reap-pointment of three members of the Salt Lake Traffic Advisory Council for three-year terms expiring ex-piring Dec. 31, 1964. Reappointed were L. Pierce Brady, Preston Linford and Dr. Marion G. Merk-eley. Merk-eley. Ellis L. Armstrong, former Utah Highway Department Director, Di-rector, this week paid a call on Gov. George D. Clyde and also visited former colleagues in the State Road Commission. Mr. Armstrong now is president of Better Highways Information Foundation in Washington, D.C. '.,",;,' ; Gerald E. Borther, airman apprentice, ap-prentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Brother o 1408 South 11th W., is attending the aerographer's mate school at the Naval Air Technical Training Unit, Lakehurst, N. J. The 19 week course trains students to operate all standard aerological equipment necessary for making weather observation.
