Show TODAY'S MEETINGS. The general suspension of business in this city today 5u the interest of the revival meeting is a somewhat remarkable remark-able thing. No doubt there are many people who will object to it, especially to the mayor's official proclamation, but we believe that any oue who con- siaerstne subject lor a moment will see in it more to applaud than to criticise. In the first place, whaterer the practical prac-tical results of this revival may be in the long run, such an experience is certainly uplifting in its tendencies ' while it lasts. There is not the slightest slight-est danger that Salt Lake will ever become be-come too moral a town, or that the average public will ever get too far away from the influences that degrade humanity. On the other hand, the good that comes from these meetings is sadly needed here as everywhere else and we ought to be thankful for the slightest contribution to the general good which they may coufer. In tins seoond place, the people of this community have been divided and arrayed against each other on religious questions. It is a hopeful and encouraging encour-aging sign to see all classes in the community com-munity ready to join hands and put business away for a part of the day in order that every man and woman may have an opportunity to attend the services ser-vices in the great tent, and listen to those who are unselfishly trying to make the world better. We hope the results of the day's meetings, in interest and attendance, will be such as to justify the remarkable remarka-ble tribute which the mayor and business busi-ness men, without regard to creed or party, have paid to them. |
