I Order, taken for Dhv. and UOJWO For tfie Reception of Frhgais Ed Kelley 11228 STATE STrTSTSl THE BOWMAN CASE. Examination of Wilnruen Before the County Court. , An investigation or trial, novel for its novelty, and so far prolific of noihinirness, except more is revealed to ihin that many persons possess short memories and tliat but few of them keep a diary that they cm swear to, was before the eounty court this morning. It was in the matter of the charpc of fonrcry of names in signatures of Contrac-tor Bow man's bond. The witnesses in succetsion were V. 8. Simpkins, 1'. H. Dyer, William Huberts, Fred Heath, (ienrge Mullett, S. K- - Feuton, M. V. fummiuj;-- , A. U Williams, F. M. lHslrnp and George Yeadon. Forgery is, of course, something seri-ous, and in this ease two gentle-men under oath assert that they never wrote their names upon the bond of Mr. Bowman which was last autumn ac-cepted by the joint committee on public buildings in the business of erecting a joint city and eounty building. The gentlemen referred to are the first two named in the list. The others all acknowledge their sig-natures upon Mr. Howman's bond, bat thero seemed to be some iUestion as to how many papers some of the witnesses had signed. There was a niimorandiiin made, merely in reference to names that might be obtained for Mr. liowmau's bond as was shown by testimony, but it does not appear that there was idt agreement drawn up to sign a bond as has been alleged. The attorneys iu the case in behalf of the city and county are Messrs. Murphy and Hall, anil for Mr. Bowman Messrs. l'owers and Ililes. The proceedings closed at noon by ad-journment, and the case will be resumed on Tuesday next, when it is anticipated that there will be further evidence to submit.
